The image shows radiation outside of the collimated area

Yes that’s normal. It is called OFF FOCUS RADIATION.

This is radiation scattering as it hits the table/tray/receptor/patient/walls/floor/etc, and coming back to the image receptor.

What can be done?
NOTHING. This has always been there and it will always be there.

Is it something to be concerned about?
In regards to image quality: No
In regards to patient and operator safety: Yes. The off focus radiation is significantly smaller than the main beam, however even a small amount of radiation should be prevented. The end user should ALWAYS do their best to protect themselves and their patient. That’s what lead lined protective gear is for.
